TweetKnot, an application built over twitter platform, mainly allows you to create public and private communities or what they call them as 'Knots'.

It helps you have short conversations with Friends, Family, Colleagues and People with similar interests.

If you want only the members of a Knot to read messages, you can go for private group. If you want them to be visible to everyone, you can make them public. Even in Public groups, only members are allowed to post messages.

The owner of the knot can specify the users whose messages should appear in the knot automatically. The owner can also follow any other Twitter users and the messages from that user will appear in the knot.

There is no registration required to use this service, you just need to authenticate your Twitter credentials.

Quite recently, Tweetknot has also launched a ranking system where users and knots are ranked based on different criteria such as number of members in knots, posted messages and page views of particular knots etc.

TweetKnot is a Bangalore based privately funded startup. It is started by people from IIT Bombay alumni.

About Twitter

As quoted on Wikipedia "Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others' updates, known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to other users - known as followers - who have subscribed to them."
