Vacuum Travel

By eliminating virtually all friction, the Evacuated Tube Transport could conceivably transport people from New York to Beijing in 2 hours.

Referred to as "Space Travel on Earth" by the designers, the ETT human transport system works with passenger capsules traveling on frictionless maglev within vacuum tubes. Electric motors accelerate the capsules, which then coast through the vacuum using no extra power.
