ইচ্ছে থাকলে উপায় হয়, কোনও কিছুই ফ্যালনা নয়। এই কথাটা আমরা বহুবার শুনেছি। নেহাতই হেলাফেলার জিনিস। পুকুরের কচুরিপানা। তা দিয়েও যে নানান রকমারি জিনিস তৈরি করা যায় কেই বা জানত। অসমের পুষ্পি ব্রহ্ম সকলকে তাক লাগিয়ে দিয়েছেন। কচুরিপানার স্ট্র শুকিয়ে ব্যাগ মাদুর পাটি বানিয়ে কোঁকড়াঝাড়কে রীতিমত স্বাবলম্বী করে তুলেছেন।
নিজের এই কাজকে শুধু অসমের ভৌগলিক সীমানায় আটকে রাখেননি।
কচুরিপানা দিয়ে তৈরি হাতব্যাগ বা সাইড ব্যাগের কালেকশন নিয়ে হাজির হয়েছেন কলকাতায়। ঘুরছেন দেশের অন্যপ্রান্তেও। মেলায় মেলায় ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছেন পুষ্পি। তাঁর উদ্যোগে ভর করে স্বচ্ছল হয়ে উঠছেন কোঁকড়াঝাড়ের কয়েকশ মানুষ।
কলকাতায় ট্রেড ফেয়ারের স্টল সামলাবার ফাঁকে আমাদের জানালেন তার লড়াই এর কাহিনি। বললেন, কোঁকড়াঝড়ের গ্রামেই নিজে ছোটখাটো হাতের কাজ করে হাত খরচ জোগার করতেন। আর্কিটেকচারাল ইঞ্জিনিয়ার পুষ্পি। ছোটোবেলা থেকেই উদ্যোগী মেয়ে। একের পর একটা উদ্যোগ নিয়েছেন। শিক্ষক বাবা আর সংসারের দায়িত্ব সামলানো মাও হাত গুটিয়ে বসে থাকেননি। মেয়ের উদ্যোম দেখে সহযোগিতা করতে এগিয়ে এসেছেন। মেখলা, চাদর আর বাঁশের তৈরি ট্র্যাডিশনাল জিনিসের ব্যবসা করেছেন পুষ্পি। নিজের পায়ে দাঁড়ানোর পণ করেছেন যেন। কিন্তু সেসবের বাজার বছরভর চাঙ্গা থাকত না। তাই বলছিলেন, "আমাদের ওখানে প্রচুর পরিবার ওই একই কাজ করতেন। খালি ভাবতাম নতুন কিছু যদি করা যায়, তবে তাহলে হয়তো বাজারে মোটামুটি সারা বছর চাহিদা থাকবে। এটা সেটা খুঁজছিলাম বছর দুয়েক আগে সুযোগ এল। নর্থ ইস্টার্ন ডেভেলপমেন্ট ফিনান্সিয়াল কর্পোরেশন (NEDFI) এর ক্যাম্প বসেছিল, সেখানেই খোঁজ পেলাম। থাইল্যান্ডের একটি হস্তশিল্পকে অসমে পরীক্ষামূলক ভাবে চালু করার পরিকল্পনা করছিলেন ওঁরা। সেই ক্যাম্পেই আমাদের এলাকার কচুরিপানাকে রি-সাইকেল করে একটি নতুন ধরনের হাতের কাজের ট্রেনিং নিলাম। তারপর ট্রেনিং শেষে নিজে কয়েকটা কচুরিপানার পাতা দিয়ে মহিলাদের হাত ব্যাগ তৈরি করালাম। আমার তৈরি মেখলা কিনতে আসা মহিলারাই এবার কচুরিপানার ব্যাগ পেয়ে দারুণ খুশি। অল্প কয়েকদিনের মধ্যেই সব ব্যাগ বিক্রি হয়ে গেল। বুঝলাম এতদিন ধরে যে জিনিসটা খুঁজছিলাম তার হদিশ পেয়ে গেছি।"
রাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতার কারণে দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে অসমের বেশ কিছু অঞ্চলে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে ব্যবসা মন্দার মধ্যে দিয়ে চলছিল। পর্যটনেও তার প্রভাব পড়ে। সেই সব প্রভাব কাটিয়ে ধীরে ধীরে আবার নিজের স্বাভাবিক ছন্দে ফিরেছে কোকড়াঝাড়। সে সুযোগটাই কাজে লাগালেন পুষ্পি।
জমানো পঞ্চাশ হাজার টাকা লাগিয়ে দিলেন নতুন কাজে। এলাকার কর্মহীন মহিলাদের নিজেই প্রশিক্ষণ দিলেন। কাঁচামালের যোগান এলাকার পুকুর থেকেই তুলে নিলেন। তাঁদের শেখালেন কিভাবে সঠিক জলকুম্ভি বা কচুরিপানা বাছাই করতে হয়। তারপর সেই আড়াই বা তিন ফুট লম্বা কচুরিপানা শুকিয়ে কেমিক্যাল ট্রিটমেন্ট করে হাতের কাজের উপযোগী করে তোলা ছিল তার বাঁ হাতের খেল। দক্ষতার সঙ্গে বুনে তৈরি হতে লাগল সাইড ব্যাগ, হ্যান্ড-ব্যাগ, ঘর সাজানোর নানা উপকরণ।
তার নিজের কথায়," আমাদের এলাকায় বেশ কিছু মহিলা ট্রেনিং নিলেন, তারপর ২০১৩ এর শেষের দিকে আমি কোঁকড়াঝারে আমার দোকানে নতুন কয়েকটা প্রোডাক্ট তুললাম। স্থানীয় লোকজন আর পর্যটকদের মধ্যে খুব জনপ্রিয় হল সেগুলো। কিন্তু ততদিনে আমার টিমে প্রায় ৩০ জন সদস্য হয়ে গিয়েছে। চিন্তা ছিল বাজারটা কি করে আরও বড় করা যায়। শেষমেশ আগের মত শুধু কোঁকড়াঝাড়েই না আটকে রয়ে যাই। অন্য লোকজনের সঙ্গে কথা বলে বুঝলাম ভিন রাজ্যে বাজার না ধরতে পারলে মুস্কিল। অন্য রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন সরকারি মেলায় অংশগ্রহণ করা শুরু করলাম। গোয়া,বোম্বে,দিল্লি ও কলকাতার বিভিন্ন মেলায় যোগদান করলাম। বিভিন্ন রাজ্যের ক্রেতাদের সঙ্গে সরাসরি যোগাযোগ করছি। ক্রেতাদের কাছ থেকে তাদের চাহিদা মাফিক পণ্যের ডিজাইনে নানা পরিবর্তন করি। অনেক কিছু শিখলাম। কয়েকজন পাইকারি ক্রেতার সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ হল।ভিন রাজ্যে মাল পাঠানো শুরু করলাম।ব্যাবসায় অনেক বদল এল। এখন আর আমার গুয়াহাটি ও কোঁকড়াঝাড়ের ম্যানুফ্যাকচারিং ইউনিটের ৪০ জন সদস্যের নিয়মিত কাজের যোগানের জন্য চিন্তা করতে হয় না।উল্টে সময়মত অর্ডার পাওয়া প্রোডাক্ট তৈরি করতে পারলাম কিনা তার চিন্তাই ভাবায়। জলে ভাসা কচুরিপানা যে আমায় একটা শক্ত মাটিতে দাঁড় করাবে তা কোনওদিন স্বপ্নেও ভাবিনি। সত্যি খুব অবাক লাগে, ভালও লাগে।"
